Українська Light and consumer sentiment. Lighting of stores
Store lighting is not only a matter of product visibility, but also a key element affecting consumer sentiment. Properly adjusted light can significantly influence customer purchasing decisions. What lamps should you choose to fulfil their purpose? Read.
Psychology of light
Research on the psychology of light confirms that there is a direct link between the type of lighting and people's moods. Light not only affects colour perception, but also general mood and stress levels. That's why interior designers, especially those involved in commercial spaces, place great importance on choosing the right lighting.
Warm lighting can create an atmosphere of cosiness and comfort, which makes customers more willing to spend time in a given place. Cold light, on the other hand, brings an atmosphere of modernity and elegance.
Real colour rendering: what is Ra?
One of the key aspects of light's impact on consumer mood is its ability to render colours faithfully. The Ra (Rendering Index) parameter determines a light's ability to render colours faithfully compared to natural light. The higher the Ra index, the more realistically objects are illuminated. In practice, this is a very important parameter in clothing stores or those with colour cosmetics. No woman would want to buy an orange blouse when she dreamed of a brick-red one, and even a powder that is poorly matched to the complexion can cause an unattractive yellow tint on the skin. A great deal depends on the light.

Kanlux iQ-LED ES-111 bulbs have a high colour rendering index Ra>97, and their minimum service life is 45,000 hours. In addition, these sources may be compatible with dimmers, which is another advantage.
UGR, or don't be blinded by the glare
UGR stands for Unified Glare Ratio and indicates the amount of glare emitted by the light, and thus its potential impact on visual comfort.
In the case of a store, the glare effect will be a consequence of poor positioning of light sources in relation to display surfaces and places that can reflect light. In the long run, being in such a store causes irritation, fatigue and even headaches. It is a rather unpleasant experience that subconsciously forces our customer to leave the store. As a result, we will be visited less and less often. The final closure of the lighting design should take place after stock replenishment – only then can we see whether we are lighting the products on display evenly and whether the light is not reflected by the metallic surfaces of shelves or hangers.
For example, Kanlux BLINGO LED panels have a low UGR (<19). These are backlight panels, their installation is facilitated by a junction box with a quick-connector, allowing the panels to be connected in a pass-through manner. An additional advantage is the integrated power supply, thanks to which we can place the panels in a suitable Kanlux ADTR frame and carry out surface mounting.
Thanks to the automated production of these panels, you can be sure that regardless of when you buy them, their parameters are repeatable. How do we do it?
How to illuminate products?
Bright, even lighting can make a significant difference in how customers perceive the products on the shelves. For retail stores, the key is to use lights that highlight colours and details while eliminating shadows. The use of lights aimed at specific products can act as an attention-directing tool, highlighting strategically selected items. Focal points should be illuminated with narrow-beam lamps (small light distribution angle). Try to illuminate large displays at an angle rather than directly from above to avoid shadow play. Spot lighting for accent purposes must be at least 2 times stronger than the background lighting.
To illuminate specific displays, you can use Kanlux HIMA LED lamps, which have a Ra index of over 90 and offer high luminous flux and two-axis angle adjustment. This is an ideal solution for stores where precise lighting of individual products is crucial.
Exclusive light
Pay attention to the lighting in the most expensive and exclusive boutiques. Can you recall what lighting fixtures dominate in them? Probably not, and this is due to the fact that they are discreetly integrated into the finishing layers of stores. The more exclusive the brand, the less prominent the lighting fixtures themselves. This does not mean that such stores are dark – quite the contrary. Neutral light is often reflected by warm wood accents and creates an atmosphere of intimacy and relaxation – we don't want to leave such a store too quickly. A good salesperson will use such light to make the customer feel at home and ... not to leave empty-handed – that's the point, after all.

How to illuminate a service premises?
Proper lighting in a service premises plays a key role in creating a welcoming ambience. A key aspect is the balance between functionality and aesthetics. Bright lighting can create a sense of space and encourage activity. In this regard, it is worth using different light sources, such as pendant lamps, wall-mounted light fittings or spotlights, to create a varied, harmonious effect. In addition, the use of adjustable light intensity can make it possible to adapt the atmosphere to different moments of the day or occasions.
