Українська Dark places in your garden - 5 ways to light them up! Discover them all
This year's pleasant and snowless winter will certainly make the start of the garden season faster. Spring is coming, which means cleaning your garden, allotment, or the space surrounding your house. While preparing for warm, summer, and autumn outdoor meetings, we should also remember about refreshing lighting. Why is this so important?
Allotment, garden, or outdoor lighting is practically as important as indoor lighting. Lighting makes it possible to see the property number, intercom, gate, or the front door. It also makes it easier to throw a party in the open air as we can move around the garden without fear of walking into the garden furniture. Our guests will also feel safer when they can see where they are moving around. Each part of the garden, allotment, or the area surrounding the house requires a different approach. When chosen properly, outdoor lighting should not dazzle anyone, disturb sleep, or cause the illuminated space to lose its charm.
More light is needed near the gate or the front door so that we can open the lock, find the bell, or so that we can simply see who enters our property. For the gate, light bollards such as Kanlux INVO or Kanlux DROMI should be fine. For the front door, we can use façade lamps from the same series. As a result, we can maintain lighting consistency. Designed for use with replaceable light sources, Kanlux INVO includes two series of products that allow us to choose our favourite colour and light intensity. Kanlux DROMI, on the other hand, included luminaires that allow the lighting direction to be adjusted in the range of as much as 300 degrees.
Motion-detector-operated LED floodlights are the right solution for entrance gates, driveways, or garage entrances. We can choose the model we want from the whole range of Kanlux ANTRA LED, Kanlux ANTEM or Kanlux ANTOS LED floodlights. The motion detector ensures that the floodlight is switched on only when we need it. This solution is not only convenient but also energy-saving. All paths and routes should be clearly visible but the amount of light should not dazzle either us or our guests. In this case, lower bollards should do the trick. We can use the bollards from the Kanlux INVO series we mentioned earlier or try out one-of-a-kind solar lamps. Solar lighting has many advantages. They can be placed anywhere because they do not need to be connected to the electrical system. Products from the Kanlux SOLCA series are worth mentioning as they boast a number of benefits. They are solar lamps with a motion detector.
Plants or rock gardens should also have impressive lighting because you can admire their beauty even after dark. In this case, Kanlux STONO luminaires are a popular and effective solution. These light balls imitating stones will be a perfect addition to your plants. We can choose one of several available ball sizes or opt for stones in irregular shapes from the Kanlux STONO IS series. However, the amount of light should not be too high because we want to highlight plants after all. On the other hand, if we like smooth, perfectly trimmed lawns and there are no plants in the garden, we can make our own rock garden using these light balls. The more, the merrier – the surface or imagination is the limit.
The building façade is another place to light up. Some parts of the building should not be lit. The house should be lit up so as not to disturb the neighbours or ourselves. It is worth remembering some simple rules that can help us. If a building is large but low, lighting can be used to visually increase its height. In this case, more powerful facade luminaires, for example products from the Kanlux LART series that provide light both up and down at the same time, should be perfect. This kind of lighting also emphasises the building façade structure (textured plaster, clinker bricks). For a smooth façade, luminaires providing gentle soft light – being a decoration in themselves – will do the trick. We can use Kanlux FORRO LED luminaires, which create a beautiful lighting effect and become a façade decoration themselves.
Light and building architecture
We can also choose lighting based on the architecture of the building.
Typical houses will look better if illuminated with gentle light. In this case, we can use Kanlux GARTO luminaires. They are lamps with a traditional simple shape but their design is not boring. They disperse light evenly up and down. We can also choose Kanlux BISO luminaires. Providing a little stronger light, they have a unique shape that will highlight the qualities of the building. For modern houses based on simple and severe masses, we can use Kanlux REKA luminaires. They allow us to make simple geometric shapes out of light thanks to adjustable masking flaps at the top and bottom.
When designing garden and façade lighting, we have to remember what risks outdoor lamps will be exposed to. Changing temperatures, humidity, water, risk of mechanical damage. Lighting that protects against such risks is designed for outdoor use. We should choose lamps rated at least at IP44. IP rating information is always given on the packaging.
